Replying to an Outlook Express mail yesterday, the cursor suddenly began moving fast across the page by itself leaving a trail of .......... dots/fullstops behind it. There was also a brrrrrrrrrrrrrr noise from the speakers.

This also happened on another mail I tried to reply to.

I did a system restore and all now seems OK. Does anyone know what may have caused this in case it happens again?

Using XP pro.

Cheers.

Wireless mouse with low battery? I have to chase mine all over the screen when the batteries get low.

Hmmm. Mouse is wired and optical but I do get the mouse cursor moving when it shouldn't sometimes. Drifts off to the left a bit. When I grab it and give it a shake, it behaves for a while.

Maybe it is a mouse problem. Cheap enough to replace I guess.

Cheers to all for input.

What surface are you using the optical mouse on - if it is slightly reflective (or plain white) you will get some strange mouse effects.
