Muppet question I know.

MP3 player originally set up and loaded from laptop. All hunky dory about 2gig of stuff on it. Worked really quickly and as I say piece of wee wee to set up.

Now connected it to house desktop because there is some stuff on there that I want on MP3 player and it would be handy to transfer onto laptop too.

So go through the rigmarole of installing it, all messages fine installed just as before bla di bla.

Except it now dees not appear as an extra drive on My Computer or File Manager programme.

Plus the display shows the computer reading reading reading from MP3 player.

And when the reading reading reading stops, I then fire up 'my computer' etc to start managing the files, and I get reading reading reading again.

Question:- is this just the anti virus etc checking the new drive out before it permits one to use the device? Or is it just the fact that I suspect the USB port is not USB2.whatever and dats transmission rates are dire.

Plus how long will it freaking take? Been sitting here best part of an hour. I'm used to much smaller flash drives which take a short time, albeit much smaller memory admittedly.

Thanks for giving it some thought, anyway bollox to it I'm off to do some decorating and will visit back in an hour or two and see how its going.

Failing that I'll connect up laptop to desktop via home network and push the files over the wireless.

Have you more than one drive on the desktop? Reason I ask is that it's a common problem with ipods as they want to create themselves as an E drive. Unfortunately if you already have an E drive the ipod doesn't appear.

If you right click on My Computer and select Manage, click Disk Management and you will see a list of your drives on the right. Hopefully on that list should be your mp3 player. Right click it and choose Change Drive Letter And Paths. Click the change button and you can then change the letter of the drive. Obviously it's safer to change the mp3 players drive letter than a physical drive on your PC else things might stop working!

Of course if you only have the 'standard' C, D, and A drive then this post would of been no help

OK update. It is now connected as drive F without any intervention from me apart rom time.

It works but so p_a_i_n_fu_l_l_y _ _ _ s_l_o_w_l_y, and I do mean s____l_____o_____w yet in laptop it's normal just like a proper flash drive so I reckon it's something to do with the connection speed.

Mission aborted. Thanks for input folks.
