Hi all,
Anyone got Sky yet? whats the connection like? They seem dirt cheap £10 a month for 16mb! :O But i've been on NTL for nearly 7 years! and not had an issue is it worth upgrading?
Is it ADSL or actually transmitted by the Sky dish?

It's ADSL2 and you need an exchange that has local loop unbundled to get the free, £5 and £10 options, otherwise it's just another ordinary BT linked ADSL.
My son has been without BB since last September because BT and Sky can't get their combined acts together to fix the problems in the exchange. My son lives in Clapham.
NO NO NO NO NO AND NO
A Complete pile of shi*e
I had AOL for 4 years before switching in Oct and its was very rare that i had any problems. I only needed to contact the customer service bods twice in that 4 year span.
I have "attempted" to contact Sky around 8 times already.
It will loose conection at any time of the day and trying to use it for any sort of gaming (poker or warcraft in my case) is a complete lottery, one day ok, next crap.
Dont be tempted by the price, look elsewhere.

I wouldn't bother.
Their online email never worked for me so I've gone with gmail instead.
The web connection can be anything from 101kbps to 7mbps, there's just no consistency. I've been farting around for ages trying to improve matters but it's made little difference.
You are forced to use their wireless router (your username and password is hidden) which wasn't good enough for me so I found a hack and now use my old router so at least wireless is working properly.
I was with Pipex happily connected at around 1.7mpbs with consistent service for many years - I'll probably go back unless Sky improve.

I signed up for Sky BB in September last year, they disconnected me 5 days later and it took them until the 27th of December to get my connection working. This is after 17 phone calls and over 8 hours spent on the phone complaining over the course of 87 days without connectivity. In the end (on day 80) I threatened legal action and they suddenly fell over themselves to fix it, 7 days later it was all sorted.
Since connection it's been fine for gaming and all other usage, torrents seem a bit slow but I haven't really investigated it properly yet.
All in all, with hindsight I'd give it a miss.

I've been with them since November and the connection is awful, it constantly drops out and is the devils own job to reconnect. However, I am not sure if this is a problem with Sky or the router. There always seems to be connection from the line to the router but I think there is some problem with the router (netgear dg834gt) had similar probs with bt for a while.
Their telephone help line is less than useless but by email they respond fairly quickly and are quite helpful.
In hindsight i should have stayed with BT so I would give them a miss until they get their act together.

I would agree with everyone else so far!
The guy who came out to "install" had been on a one day course which seemingly didn't actually extend as far as setting up the wireless part of the wireless router to allow you to disconnect the ethernet cable! I really should've invoiced them for the 2 hour tutorial I gave him until he was able to do that and set up security on it.
For the first time in my life, I was actually pleased when I encountered some truly awful customer service... In this case, that of NTL, who didn't get round to cancelling my broadband subscription with them before I realised just how dreadful the Sky service was and cancelled that!
Cancelling Sky BB was a chore all of its own btw. I had to write to them via snail mail with a threat to also cancel my TV subscription before they actually did anything.
Finally, unless it has improved, expect to be on hold for anything up to 90 minutes before eventually getting to speak to someone in India who will totally refuse to accept that you have already told their colleagues everything 6 times before, have already tried all of their basic tests, and know a damm site more about the subject than they do

Haha sounds like fun
I've advised my Girlfriends dad against it as he was gonna go for the service.
He managed to get NTL cheap anyway, as they wern't charging him for a year then just befor Christmas 05 the connection died and when phoned them they said its because he never p[aid so he said well u have my card its u that havnt taken the money from me. and they decided that they would charge him for only 2 months instead of 12! Not bad at all! and they never took the money and to this day they havn't been bcharged!
