what would you do....
Discussion
A friend has a small business of 8 people who all work from home. They're worried re back up solution etc and are thinking of an actual server. problem is with no IT theyd never check back ups / av updates etc.
Is there a good virtual solution out there that would be better for them - somewhere to store files / use for mail etc that then in a year or 2 when they get an office they can transfer to a proper server etc?
Any thought / recommendations appreciated.
Thanks
My company, Cantarus offers an online backup solution which would fit the scenario you describe nicely, is entirely off-site and doesn't require users to remember to backup (based on our experience they just forget and you only find out when the backup is weeks out of date or they haven't been backing-up everything). Cantarus is the most recommended company on PH after Serverstream/Register1.net (who host PH) as far as I'm aware and we have a number of PHers using our backup services.
Essentially, your friend's PCs would upload their data over an Internet connection to our primary backup server located in a premium UK datacentre. We then replicate the data out in real time to an ex-NATO nuclear bunker. Once an initial backup is done only the changes are uploaded so this tends to be a quick process and can be scheduled to occur whenever you wish. Your friend would get an email every day summarising the backup success/failure with an attached report giving a file-by-file account of the backup process which can be viewed as needed.
Files can be restored via the client software or through a web browser and strong encryption is enforced end-to-end. All but our most basic packages include telephone and email support. There's a 30 day free trial too if he wants to try it out.
I'll drop you an email through your profile with my contact details if you want to pursue this.
FYI: There is also another PHer who offers an online backup service, I think it's plastic_pig or something like that.
