No sound over web cam on video call

Just bought a web cam. Installed everything and friend did the same. We call get the video to work but no sound. We have both configured the microphones using the setups and all that seems fine, but yet we get no sound. We are both using Windows Messenger live. Any ideas?

LOL, not quite, bought one for my father for Christmas and just got one myself on Sat. I'm not saying there wont be other uses, but until I can call my parents there wont be much else going on...

Does the microphone work in all other programs? If so, poke around Live's settings and see if it knows you have a microphone.

...looks like my dad is being a spaz. He can now hear me but I cant hear him. I suspect it is user error on his side...
