Is there a way to get windows to switch itself off at a certain time each day?

The Son has got into the habit of leaving his pc switched on when he goes to school, so a little utility that will automatically switch the pc off at a certain time if he forgets would be very handy.

Otherwise, I'll just have to kick his arse.

Kick his arse - so much more satisfying, I find.
Getting something to do the thinking for him (other than his mother) just isn't the same.

The command you need to run is:

shutdown.exe -s

Just create a task in Scheduled Tasks to run that command at whatever time and frequency you want

Wouldn't:

at 10:00 "shutdown /s"

from the command line do it? Not as slick as one of them new fangled scheduled tasks, but equally effective.
