No such luck..

Aaaahh! Spent many a night programming PET's! I used them at college - the original 40 col one's and the super duper 80 col one's too. Not the first computer I used, I was coding mainframes by tickertape and punched card in PL/1 before I got anywhere near a PET, but the first "PC" for sure. Moved on to Commodore 64, then "proper" PC's.
One pops up in Terminator 3 in the bunker - "these computers are ancient" -
do you mind young man?!
Still, £4,300 is a lot of dosh. Someone REALLY wanted one! It was an early one with the built in cassette and titchy keyboard I suppose.
SOme do go for reasonable money : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RARE-COMMODORE-

The high price was due to it being a very early machine.
These used to be in junk shops in the 80's and we all passed by.
They are only a few early models in mint condition.
My first computer was a Vic 20 from 1983 (they shipped in 1981).
The good old days.......
I remember my friend writing a sound to light program on his Spectrum and we sat there for ages playing different albums to see the different effects !

I love old micro's.
In my loft I have a couple of very early RM Nimbus', Acorn Electron, A couple of series 1 BBC Micro's, Vic-20, late C-64, an Amstrad Jobby of some description from 1984, and and early Spectrum with the rubber buttons. I even had a Xerox word proccessor with the old ten inch floppy discs but this went to the scrapper in about 1991. Bloody thing would be a collectors item now.
A mate of mine has a PET in his garage, it needs a bit of work though, the keyboard is damaged. If anyone's interested in it I can email him and see if he still has it.

The Amstrad I have is a CPC-464 exactly like the one pictured in the digitalretro book.
I couldn't remember for the life of me what it was, I have the monitor and all the bits too.
