ADSL link on a Satellite Receiver

[chillies]

A friend of mine has got himself a Satellite Receiver, supplied with an ADSL modem. From what I can see, the purpose of this is to get updates to the receiver from the Web. Can anyone shed any light on the usefulness of this feature and whether it would enable additional channels as he seems to believe might be the case (from the geezer that sold him the kit!)? The receiver is an 'INNOVATION' one.

As you can tell, I know nowt about Satellite setups.

Cheers.
