Word not working

Help please.

Got a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop and Word 2003 installed from a disc. No problems from Sept. untill now. When a word doc. is opened you cannot type anything on the page and the tool bar is greyed out.

Yesterday we uninstalled the software and reinstalled from a new disc, agin 2003 basic. As before everything installs okay but the same problem, the same goes for excel. We are able to go to help (no help!!) and type there but but on the doc. itself, no.

Any ideas please.

Is it something silly like the "Word Assistant" (The animated graphic thingy) running in the background? You have to click on the "No I don't want any bloody help" button to allow you to use the program normally?

Could be that your template is corrupted. Do a search for normal.dot and delete it. It will create a new one when you restart word.

Thanks for replys so far. We will try a bit later today, will let you know how we get on. In the meantime if there are any more suggestions please keep'em coming.
