Thought I'd post this here as the "Computers and Stuff" forum isn't exactly a hive of activity. Please move as appropriate.

Basically I need to convert a simple bmp file into a vector graphic. It's a one off so,

a) Anyone know of a freeware program that will do the conversion or,

b) Is anyone with the necessary software feeling particularly generous?

Is it even possible to convert in that direction?

Streamline should do that but it's crap and puts in too many anchor points (or nodes as no one else sems to call them).

I don't have it for the above reason.

If you want your questions answered the computer forum is best place because anyone with an interest in computers will lokk in here, not everyone looks in the P&P because it's full of 99% crap most of the time. Plus if you want your request to stay on the front page a couple of days until the best person to answer it does then post here, if you want sarcastic answers and your thread very quickly dropping off the front page and lost to oblivion then use the P&P.

Yup, as long as the conversion is cpable of interpreting the bitmap clearly. If it's a white background with black lines on it then it's (relatively) simple but converting a photo into vector would be tougher.

No clue what software would do it though.

My bitmap is extremely simple, one colour and created with MS Paint!

Alternatively, is there a freeware vector graphics creator I could use?

The best open source vector editor must be INKSCAPE! It comes with a tracer too; have a look at www.inkscape.org/ - It's a huge project.

Inkscape is great, but I never noticed the tracer before... I'm off to have a play with it

Good stuff. Cheers chaps. And apologies for the suggestion that this might not be a useful resource paperbag
