Hi all, new to ipods and have got a 30gig video job.

Connected my ipod for the first time. I thought itunes would sync with the music held in the My Music folder on my pc. Well, my itunes became full of speed camera warnings and sat-nav instructions. I have absolutely no idea where these came from.

Also, a great many tracks were repeated, some repeated four times. So I've just spent a while deleting more stuff than I've kept.

Why has this happened and how do I prevent it happening again?

When you run iTunes for the 1st time, it asks if you want it to automatically scan your drive for music files. It sounds like you have done this, and its added anything ending in .mp3 or whatever to your library. Which explains your sat nav stuff being in there..
Im not sure why you have repeated tracks though.. Do you have aliases of some of your tracks perhaps?

Anyway, if you check through the iTunes preferences, you'll see that you can configure it a little more manually. So then you'll be able to keep tabs on stuff better and wont have rogue audio files added.

Did you bother reading the manual/instructions?
Did you venture to have a look at the Preference settings in iTunes when the iPod is connected?
Did you not realise you'd copies of the same song in your iTunes Library?
Did you panic and come here first before doing any investigation yourself?
Did you not see the big label in the box saying "Not to be used by IDIOTS!"?
Did you not get the last one as me being facetious?
Did you...........nope, sorry. I'm all done now.

1) Er, nope, cos its 72 pages long which I have to print off myself, so I'm trying to blag a sheaf of paper from work and I need to get a new black ink cartdidge. Plus, the first thing I did was to plug the ipod in to have a look at what I've got, and itunes automatically started doing stuff without me touching it.

2)No what or where the preferences setting s and still don't, first time I've heard of it.

3) No, absolutely no idea why many of the songs were copied, still don't know, doesn't seem to have happened again.

4, 5, 6 & 7) Er, I did say I was a first time ippod user. And hey, whats the point in doing proper research, when there's the internet for you? I mean, Britain has invaded Iraq on the same grounds...

Barsteward. hehe

yikes

Britain invaded Iraq because of the internet?
Bloody hell!
Ah! So that's what WMD stands for...........Widebandwidth, Mega Downloads.
But...hang on. I thought it turned out TB was wrong, and Iraq didn't have WMD. So we went to war over nothing then?
Barstewards indeed!

BTW, on iTunes for Windows, Prefs may be Options.
