Hola all,

Work is going to be taking me abroad for the next 8 weeks or so and I am in the process of sorting out things to keep myself amused in the evenings. I like the idea of being able to watch DVDs on my laptop but have stumbled across a potential problem. I have a mix of Region 1 and Region 2 dvds and would like to be able to play both. The inbuilt software/hardware lets me change the region lock 4 times and after that it remains on whichever one I selected last. Does anyone know of any software/workarounds that will let me have a region free laptop? A solution that doesn't involve getting the drive chipped would be preferred.

The DVD Drive is a QSI CDRW/DVD SBW24B that is attached to an Alienware Area 51 laptop.

Cheers,

Liam

Try using the free VLC media player as this bypasses the standard DVD video stuff, so also bypasses the region coding. Plays all the DVDs I have tried both region 1 & 2 without changing the region on the DVD drive.

Best option and simpler than faffing around with region code fakers and the like.
