I'm Fed up to the back teeth of my epson printer heads drying out because it doesn't get looked at for a day. Other than HP does any other manufactor make a printer that doesn't dry up in minutes?
Cheers Matt

Does it have to be an inkjet? For less than £50 these days you can get a good b/w laser printer. Faster, quieter printing and doesn't dry up.

I've found my Canon IP5000 excellent so I'd reccommend the brand - duplex as standard to boot!

Oh!

A drawer full of non-genuine cartridges may be the answer then - the ones for my canon were about £2 a pop from ebuyer.

Colour lasers are getting cheaper; just bought one for about 160 quid - samsung clp-600n. Nice bit of kit. I've had lasers for the part 5 years entirely because the cartridges don't dry out.

We've just bought a Canon IP4300 off Amazon.co.uk for £57. Free delivery within the week too.

I've got an Epson Stylus photoRX700 that works very well but I did stop using 'generic' cartridges because they seemed to dry up and seemed to run out faster than the Epson branded ones. The quality of prints was better with the Epson cartridges too. Together with the excellent scanner/copier and multi-card reader I can't fault it. I've got a couple of Lexmark Z55s for the kids and they seem to work great too - though probably updated models are available.

Just as with colour inkjets, the killer with colour lasers is the toner. I seem to remember the CLP-600N toners go for about £80 a pop for C/M/Y and £65 for black. Don't think you can just buy a new printer either, they save money by delivering them with "tester" cartridges which are <1/3 full.
