Just gone from ME to XP (yes I do know there's a newer one!)
XP has decided to convert some (not all) of my notepad files to word!
The ones it didn't change don't open correctly in notepad.
The ones it converted to word don't open in word.

Why can't they just leave stuff alone!
My notepad files are all my "money, investment stuff" so I'm pretty plssed.

File structure, I just tried to move a folder to C, it didn't like it.
I don't wish to make ten mouse clicks to get where I wanna go.
No I don't want in on desktop as I want to access it from an application (irfran) which uses an explorer type access.

When are MS going to realise it's just an OS.

Are you sure it's converted them to Word format? It's very odd that it would do something like that to a .txt file, were they made in Notepad or Wordpad? As the latter can do Word 6.0 and RTF files (although this functionality has been removed in Vista, at least as far as .doc support goes).

ME is an utter pile of shit that should never have been released. You are well rid of it.

Just becasue yon don't know how to use it doesn't make it shit.

Right click the files and choose "open with", then select notepad. XP still defaults .txt files to notepad anyway so not really sure what you're trying to open.

I wouldn't say ME is shit, but that it does have a reputation for being... well... easy to provoke in to doing something humerous (i.e. crashing). Having said that I have encountered several machines that ran better with ME than they did Win98.

Having gone from ME to XP in the last year, I can say XP is a revelation in terms of reliability

ME used to lock up / blue screen everytime I used it... XP sometimes throws a mild wobble, but recovers very well!

It didn't actually convert then to "word" but it gave then a "word icon", they will not open. I tried a few "open withs"
The ones that are still txts open with notepad but are garbage.

In that case it soulds like word's tried to covnert them to something else. Set the file associations back to what they should be, restore the files from backup and all should be OK.
