Is it possible to run an Vista and XP on the same PC either through the use of two harddisks or by partioning an existing drive?

I quite fancy trying out Vista but I don't want to loose my nice stable(ish) Xp install if at all possible

You can and it is easy, so long as you hae a separate drive or partition. Just install Vista onto the spare drive or partition and it will give a you a menu at boot-up offering a choice of Vista or "Earlier version of Windows". This is how I run my main PC at the moment: XP for games and Vista for everything else.

the only catch is if you do it while drunk as I once did and accidentally install over your XP partition (you have to be drunk to do this). Make sure your XP partition is labeled XP (if not, right click in My Computer on your C Drive and click rename).
