Rather than ask on the Computers thread in P and P, i thought it would be better answered here.

I'm looking to delete a load of programme files off my computer, but i'm not sure which ones to delete. Its a Viao laptop, so has all the viao centre software on it which i have to admit i haven't used since i bought it. along with stuff like quicktime which i hardly use, is it just a case of going through it and keeping anything that says windows or microsoft ?

Yep.

Start > Control Panel > Add/Remote Programs.

Make sure you don't uninstall anything from Windows Update as XP will have a huge hissy fit. But other than that yes, feel free to uninstall anything that you don't use.

Deleted some of the programmes off, mostly Vaio related things, however the one snag is that the Function key no longer works, ie if i try and adjust the volume or the screen brightness using the keyboard its not having any of it. Suggestions?

That'll be what the Vaio program does hehe
I'm pretty sure you could find a program on google that'll do the same job but... best bet would be to get your rebuild CD's that came with the laptop and insert the one marked "drivers" or some such. If you don't have these CD's poke around the Sony website as they'll provide a download of a newer version.

At least the machine is still working
