Got NAV free with the laptop, it's now expired and I don't want to renew it, its a bugger for using so much resources. How can i completely remove it from my system and all the horrible little registry entries it hides?

also can anyone recommend a replacement, not 100% sure AVG is that good

thanks

NOD32 is very good indeed.
Removal of the Norton stuff - if there's no uninstaller, then do it through Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
You can manually run 'regedit' and search for Norton/Symantec and delete those.
Alternatively, there's a plethora of free software that will let you see orphaned entries in the Registry or elsewhere on the drive, and delete them. Often they're included on the disc you get with magazines (check they're virus free first!) or you can get them from www.versiontracker.com

I'm sure theres a utility to completely remove NAV...I used it recently on my laptop to remove the corporate edition (same shit).

I even think it was a Symantec product?!!

I recommend Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0. It can be purchased for about £25 from amazon.co.uk and is efficient, has more frequent database updates than Norton and in my experience misses less viruses. For example, I recently had to fix a client's laptop. It has the latest version of Norton with firewall, etc. running and everythign was up-to-date. I ran a full scan in Safe Mode and Norton found nothing. I then removed Norton and installed Kaspersky which found 6 different pieces of malicious software. I'd also recommend AdAware and SpyBot S&D for removing spyware (though Kaspersky was quite good at this anyway) and HijackThis for serious problems.

NOD32's a better anti-virus than Kapersky, Had it pick up one or 2 viruses that Kapersky didn't find.
