Orange B-Band and Bit Torrent
Discussion
I know this should be in the computers section and mods please feel free to move it, but I wanted to post this up here to let people know what Orange have been up to!
Ive been on the same Broadband connection for a few years now.
What began as Freeserve changed to Wannadoo which then changed to Orange.
I have been using Bit Torrent (Azureus) for some time now and had no problems until a couple of months ago when I realised that my internet connection would cease after a very short while of downloading via bit-torrent.
A couple of peeps on here suggested it might have something to do with Orange employing Traffic Shaping to their ISP in order to limit broadband users, which is a cheeky sodding thing to do as I pay full whack for an unlimited broadband connection which means I should be able to download as and when I like, I don't use it to a ridiculous amount.
I contacted Orange and asked the technical team outright about Traffic Shaping and whether they used it. Obviously they denied the existence of such a thing and that they wouldn't be using such a method to limit end users.
I followed a link to the Azureus Wiki and followed the instructions to change the way the system behaves in order to try and resolve the problem....low and behold it has worked
So Orange, who stated unequivocally that they would utilise such a tactic, are completely full of it and are using Traffic Shaping methods.
So beware, those of you using and unlimited Orange Broadband connection, if you're getting cut off during bit torrent downloads...its not your PC or wireless hardware (as they tried to tell me) it is Orange that are responsible!!
For anyone suffering the same fate as I, please follow this link and change the oppropriate settings

that seems to be a symtom of modern society - everyone just copies the Blairy bunch. Deceipt, Denial and lies....
Another example...
The head of bournemouth council told the local paper "There are no chips in the new wheely bins. there are no plans to put any there either" Two days later it was revealed that the chips were present and low and behold his excuse is that he did not know anything about it....
Yeah, this country is really starting to suck!
the local council in Leeds didnt even make a statement or announcement about the chips in bins, but when we heard about it in various other areas accross Britain, we checked and there they were!
Sneaky sods
It looks like the Shaping problem could be solved now. Its been connected for about an hour and the files are being transfered at a respectable rate without shutdown althoug the new setup is munching a bit more memory, but at least it works!
