Hi
Been looking at various c. £500 desktop packages - either Vista or XP...only need 15" flatscreen monitor....though 17" would be nice
Loads to choose from - just which one is considered the most reliable, sturdy workhorse type?
No gameing needed - just surfing the net and photoedititng type stuff.
There's a Modion (sp?) on special offer from Thursday at £400 which looks good for the spec - monitor is another £100 - but still looks good
PCWorld have a Compaq at £430 and an Acer at £500 which also fit the bill.
I'd prefer a pick up from store and work straight out the box type set-up
Any other ideas?

Thanks

Bump

Have since visited other sites and the Medion from Aldi isn't that good a deal.
There was a good deal at Comet for an e.machine at £270 but that's over now.
Thursday - I'm going to drive to MK eek and visit Evesham comp store - was going to visit Aldi....but that one is a no now.

maybe post the spec, but if not into gaming, most pc's will be fine for typeing and the like

photo editing needs as much ram as u can afford, 2GB+ depends on picture format and size

pity u dont have an idenpendent shop u can pop in for chat

you live near MK, so is letchworth too far - it is on the A1M, spearpoint computers, excellent little shop, guy can make what u want and chat with u first so u can get one that works for u

Wasn't over after all - I managed to get the last one in the Bedford shop,a new 15.4" flat monitor and a freebie ( worth £60 ) 8 plug surge protector for £350 - which I think is a bargain

The Aldi deal is pretty good, a fast processor, lots of ram and bits for £399
Add a 17" monitor for £100 and you are a £1 under budget

What about the obvious - I know, I know:

PC World, brand new with 17" flast screen @ £299

www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1379181505.1171488612@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccfgaddkegiedddcflgceggdhhmdgml.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=101376&category_oid=

If I was picky I'd stick another 256MB RAM in @ £25

Edit : Yep, sorry too much haste - for PS I'd add more memory!
