A good friend of mine is about to become rather famous in his field of work and he has quite a distictive name. If you search for his name in Google with "" marks it brings up a fair few pages about him.

It also brings up two pages (the first two links) which contain his name which were written during our university days. One about the time when we drank our way around London's Circle Line, another about a rather hefty night at university.

The latter has his name very close to the words "waking up next to a mop bucket containing purple vomit". (paraphrasing so you can't find it).

He understandably wanted his name removed from these pages which we have done although I've just searched for his name and found that one week on Google still links the page.

Anyone know how long they cache for and how we can get it changed?

The dark side of the 'net'....

Google uses spiders to build a database of webpages, hence why a hit will come up even if the webpage has gone...

and the pages will remain until the spiders have scanned the particular web pages again, and that can be impossible to guess...

Also, www.archive.org will have the page in all likelihood. Your friend should embrace his past and learn to live with it if he puts stuff up on tinternet. ;-)

Not a chance. I'm trying to protect, not spread!
