*cheeky git mode*

Does anybody have the upgrade disc that they might want to 'lend'.

I want to make sure its suitable before getting the upgrade from a shop.

Thanks

No disk here I'm afraid, but if you tell us what your system specs are (roughly) we'll let you know if it's worth it and if you'll need extras.
Two important areas are RAM and hard drive size + free space on it. You'll really want 256MB of the former and a minimum of 20GB on the latter.
Processor... anything above 800Mhz should be fine.

I only need it for a short while, to access itunes mainly. Just until I get my new PC later this year.

Not sure of the spec of my current PC but as its an upgrade just for itunes, it probably doesn't matter.

Cheers thumbup

You don't have to use iTunes. Try Anapod Explorer which works on 98 and ME.

Thanks Flossy - I can use the ipod and currently use XPLAY 2. However, I want itunes to be able to download stuff.

256Mb of RAM seems rather low for decent performance. At least 512Mb would be better and I would go for 1GB.

would not waste your time installing xp over me, just format the boot drive and install xp on a fresh partition or drive. m8 tried it and had so much hassle....

xp 512 mb minimum. 256 mb on laptop ?, mine got upgraded due to lots of crashes for some reason....

256Mb is fine for general surfing and word processing in WinXP. Assuming none-integrated graphics chip. Anything less and the system will grind I agree as I do about 512Mb being more useful. But you can get away with 256.

Considering the machine is running ME and thus quite old, I was trying to save the OP's cash to put toward the bigger box he's getting later in the year, no point forking over wonga to bring a PII-600 up to spec if he can scrape by for a few more months.

Good advice for my circumstances.

However, I went to load it last night and did a system check - decided it was too risky as it would have interfered with my modem and various other things.

Fearing cocking everything up, I'm just gonna wait until I get a whole new system.
