Hi guys, hoping maybe someone can shed some light on a little problem i've got with my computer that is very very annoying.
Basically, i was sat admiring various car videos in the PH spirit on youtube this morning, selected a video and my sound didn't work, and it hasn't worked since, but only on youtube and google videos (thats all i've tried online). The video still plays, but the sound does not. sound works fine if i play an MP3 or someone signs into messenger though.
Which leads me to believe it's a problem with flash. So i tried uninstalling and reinstalling the flash player from adobe, to no avail, checked all the settings i'm aware of for firefox and IE, etc, nothing relevant,
got told to try what's mentioned here: http://weyland.be/weblog/index.php/20

to no avail.

The Windows audio service is started in services, and i'm out of ideas and was long ago.

Anyway, thanks for reading, more thanks for any suggestions in advance.

Cheers,

Stu

anyone got any idea what it could be? just for once it would be really nice if the solution was simple and didnt involve the hard disk equivelant of nuclear fallout, i'm fed up for formatiing etc this year.

Now this could be a tricky one but a couple o things for you to look at. First of all got to your volume settings and make sure you have not muted anything by mistake or another program has done it for you. This may not affect your MP3's or a cd as it might be just the Video that is muted! Also make sure that the clip you are trying to whatch actually has sound by trying a clip that you KNOW definately has sound. Also make sure what system is being used to view the clip, is it flash? or windows media player plugin? If it is the latter make sure you have the latest version as they are notorious for not playing files over the internet. If you are not sure which is being used download media player v11 just in case. Finally if all that hasnt helped then just chuck it out of the window.

A friend of mine has a PC running XP that every few days randomly reduces the volume on one source to zero! Sometimes CD, sometimes Line, etc. Never been able to cure it. Now has a short-cut on the desktop to his sound-card settings to allow rapid recovery.

i've got SoundMAX installed which came with the motherboard. Nothing is muted in there, it's all setup properly and nothing has changed. Same goes for Sound and Speaker settings in control panel. All above board and correct.
It's definately flash it's messing up on, all youtube vids and google vids, and a couple of other flash vids.
Definately videos i know have got sound, as i've seen the ones before i was trying.

seem to have addressed everything suggested so far and its still busted lol
everything is up to date, no viruses, spyware, adware etc, everything else is perfect as usual, this is the only thing that wont work cry

re-install the sound drivers ?

had an issue with noise in games, re-installed it and it works fine, assume no cables have been pulled or partly pulled, system restore worth a try

Sounds(?) like a DLL got corrupted or maybe a MS update replaced it with one that didn't quite do the same job.
