I've recently purchased a Panasonic DMC FZ7 Lumix following the excellent advice on this forum and I'm very happy with it, especially for the price.

I've been using it with an existing 256mb SD card I had left over from an old PDA but it's not really fast (or big) enough. The handbook says I need a speed of 10MB/sec - now when I've been searching they come up listed as 20x or 66x or 133x etc.

What speed does 10MB/sec equate to? and where would be a cheap place to buy a 2GB card?

many thanks for your help.

(I've also posted this in the Photography section but figured I may get more usefull response on here)

I've been using a MobiMemory 4Gb SD card in my PDA for the last 8 months without any issues. Check out www.mobimemory.com as I have found them to be quite good.

The multiplication factor refers not to some strange reference SD card, but to a standard CD-ROM speed of 150KB/s. So 10x is 1.5MB/s, 66x is 10MB/s etc.

(For what it's worth)

slighty off topic. If i were to buy a x133 SD card an put it into my PDA that is also a GPS unit, would my map updates be quicker too?
At the moment my maps are stored on a 256MB card that i bought from ebay for less than a tenner.

Thanks for you help guys. Spoke to a mate that works for Jessops and he says that x66 is indeed equivalant to 10mb/s

Camera only supports up to 2GB so will get one of those of ebuyer I think.

www.7dayshop.com has 133x SD cards 4Gb for £17.99 - is that the ultimate bargain or what?
