Hi

Hopefully someone here can help, I have an excel spreadsheet and I would like to format the cells with formulas in them so that positive numbers show up as normal but a negative number will show up in brackets.

e.g. 500 would show up as 500
but -500 would show up as ( 500 )

Is this possible?

I have looked at the custom formats but I can't make much out of the 0s and #s that's in them all!

It's in custom.

type or edit an existing similar custom setting.

#,##0.00;[red](#,##0.00)

if you want a minus sign as well, stick one in before the first bracket, if you don't want decimal places, edit to show only the first zero, etc etc.

You are a star!

That works perfectly, even puts in commas !

I just made a little chnage to
#,##0;[Red](#,##0)
as I dont need the decimal places!

Thank you, that was much appreciated
