Can anyone reccomend a reasonably priced and good quality laptop case?

I use a Targus rucksack type laptop bag. No problems with it whatsoever. I prefer carrying things on my back and it looks like any other rucksack so is less likely to be a target for opportunistic theft.

I think it cost £40 from PC World, so probably cheaper if you shop around.

I got one for my Dad when he went to the Gulf and it came back unscathed, the same can't be said for his laptop. I guess that makes it pretty hardwearing!

ETA the laptop suffered a bit of sand damage. It was nothing to do with the bag.

Targus rucksack for the Dell's here as well. Lots of padding on the inside, although the padding does mean the beasts don't cool off when you put them in (turned off/STD'd), was rather a shock to get home and pull out a warm laptop

I had a Targus rucksack too, I used it all the way through uni, carrying books and my lappy and it came out fine. I liked the fact that it didn't look like a laptop case so felt safer.

Yep, the rucksack look isn't always appropriate.

I've got a Delsey case, about four years old now. It's made out of a sort of fabric, and it's lasted really well.

I can't find a link to a similar one unfortunately, so maybe it's been discontinued, but when I need a new one I'll be looking at their range first.

You don't, if you value your sanity. You simply download the relevant PDF from the catalogue link
www.crumpler.co.uk/files/generic_files/CAT_2_PDF_EN/file1125439399.pdf

I hear what you say about a rucksack but as a girlie I find laptops really difficult to carry unless I carry them in a rucksack. Unless your mum has biceps like a builder or a VERY light laptop a bag that she carries in her hand or even over her shoulder will make it quite tricky to carry the lappy if she's going any distance.

If it's only car to door type stuff it probably makes no difference but if she's travelling on public transport or walking it's worth checking that she can lug the thing any distance!

The Crumpler bags look nice - I fancy one for my camera gear...
