Hi all, just wondering if anyone might be able to help me with a problem I have.

Basically Windows media player has suddenly taken upon itself to not play MPEG / MPG files anymore.
This has happened suddenly, and no changes to either the system, files or the computer itself have been made.
One minute it played them fine, the next it didn't. Quicktime still plays them fine.

I'm using WMP 11, or whatever the most recent version is, I forget. No updates available for it, and as far as I'm aware no major changes have been made to any windows files.
I've also reinstalled codecs, media player, and anything else I can think of, to no avail.

Any suggestions as the prospect of formatting is looking increasingly likely and I really don't fancy that.
I'm running XP pro with SP2 fully updated and original copy

Cheers,
Stu

You could try reinstalling the codecs (uninstall first).

Or you could try a free player like VLC.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, both with codecs and WMP.
Free player is an option, but I'd really like WMP to be able to do it.

Think I might have accidentally sorted this.

Was having some problems with samsung pc suite connecting to my phone to pull pictures off etc.

Uninstalled and reinstalled it, and all of a sudden media player is able to play MPEG/MPG files again. Bizarre but there we go.
