Windows Vista & multiple languages

Mrs Zax wants to buy a new laptop, most of which these days are shipping with Vista installed. What's the deal with Vista and running the interface in multiple languages? I got burned by this at Christmas time with Windows XP (in short not possible, so I had to reinstall in Finnish), so I'm hoping they've improved things now. I guess I need one of the more expensive of the many versions plus some kind of add-on, and I'm pretty sure I won't get that one on a low to middle end laptop pre-installed.

MS site is a little less than helpful, hoping for more sense from a car forum . Trying to persuade her to just buy a Mac powerbook which does this stuff without problems, but she won't be told...
