C:\Windows\Installer
Discussion
Does anyone know if I can remove this folder, it is currently sitting at 680+MB, and has a 200+MB of .msp files. Now, I THINK the .msi files are for uninstalling programs, but the msp files???
I've already deleted about 800MB of files out of the Windows folder, but would like to get the windows install as small as possible. I can't believe there was 100+MB of useless IE stuff! 100MB for a browser is just ridiculous

The safe way to remove stuff from an existing installation is via add/remove windows components and the disk cleanup utility. Deleting files manually is rather risky. If you're designing a new custom windows installation, NTLite ( www.nliteos.com ) is a handy way to create a windows installer with just the bits you want.
I'm just trying to get rid of some un-needed files and programs, free up some disc space.
I was kind of hoping that there would be some large online directory which shows what all the files and folders in the windows directory do.
I searched google for the Windows\Installer folder, some sites say it can be deleted, some say NOT to delete.
Currently I am creating restore points, cutting stuff from windows folder to a copy of the windows folder on the desktop, rebooting, and if everything seems fine deleting the files from the desktop.
I also have a copy of the files im deleting on a dvd.
