Just trying to clear down some files from my disk as it's getting a bit full and found out I had about 2 gig of temp/internet type files - none of which were picked up by disk cleanup BTW

Anyway got rid of most of it but I still have about half a gig under:

Cocuments and Settings<username>Local SettingsTemporary Internet FilesContent.IE5

Did a search on the MS website and all it says is don't delete it, it's a system folder . It also says if I delete it, it will be recreated next time I boot up so do you reckon I sould just ignore them and zap it so it recreates (hopefully a bit more empty)?

P.S. I'm running Win 2K pro and IE6

Have you tried going into IE6,

then Tools --> Internet Options

then under the bit that says Temporary Internet Files, hitting the button that says "Delete Files..." ?

Apologies for stating the obvious if you've already done it.

Neil.

There's a programme called EmptyTemp that will empty it. It came in useful when a 700 MB video I previewed in Kazaa decided it didn't want to be removed from Temp. Internet Files

Here it is - www.danish-shareware.dk/soft/emptemp/

If you're still having problems deleting it, try something called BCWipe from www.jetico.fi (or .com, can't remember).

It's a secure file deletion tool which, as a handy side effect, will manage to vapourise files that Windows won't normally let you touch. A reboot might be required, but if you've a large file that just won't shift, then this'll do it.

Just use windows explorer to go to

c:|Documents and Settings|[your username]|Local Settings|Temporary Internet Files

Then add |content.ie5 to the end of it. It's a hidden directory!

Then delete all the folders in there. Make sure IE and MS Messenger are closed when you do it. I've never had any side-effects

Edited to add, the folders might not disapear straight away, sometimes you have to press F5
and the |'s should be backslashes!

I have show hidden directories enabled and have tried deleting it through explorer and it got rid of most of it but still leaves one large directory there. I'll try downloading one of the suggested utils tonight and give it a go.
