The IT bods appear to have blocked access to Facebook from work and although this isn't the most drastic thing in the world it's a bit annoying for wasting time and arranging my social calander.

So....I was just wondering if there was some sort of 'backdoor' to get in under IT's radar? scratchchin

I know at some places, looking at sites you're not meant to (facebook, etc.) gets you a slap on the wrist, but using a proxy server to actively get round the company IT policy counts as misconduct.

Maybe worth bearing in mind...

Facebook Mobile.

Either use the mobile web, or install the app to your handset (I have it on my iPhone & work BlackBerry)

Works for me, as F'book is blocked here as well.

I work in IT and I am one of those people who block such websites wink However I know of a fairly good program that you can download called Ultrasurf - The executable is called U92.exe or U94.exe - As long as it is setup correctly you can bypass most filters, depending on how locked down your company network is ...

I'd just like to add that I cannot be held responsible for any viruses, damage or loss to your computer, documents or jobwink

I have tested it and haven't had any problems - I know of others who use it too and it seems to be growing in popularity as an alternative to proxy websites.

As others have said you can use a proxy, although the likelihood is though that proxy directorys will also be blocked.

Worth noting too that circumventing blocked websites using a proxy is generally considered a gross misconduct offence. wink

Mate of mine had a similar problem - iGoogle has a Facebook add on that doesn't get blocked. Worked for him!

Download Apples Safari. Normally bypasses most work filters.

As most of the suggestions have the term 'Gross Misconduct' in them I think I might give it a miss, I can't say it's that much of a loss, just means I spend more time on here. paperbag

I wonder why I can't access hotmail, which I sometimes use for work, but can get on here (handy when I get a no show)??

Any NHS IT bods on here?

Just tried the 'normal' door and it worked. scratchchin
Look out for the 'Lots of time to surf now I'm out of work' thread. paperbag
We have had lots of 'server issues' this week but with IT being at a different site we don't see what they get up to, and our old 'in' at IT is off sick. frown

Can't you just call your face friends on the telephone and ask them if they want a pint? Failing that send them an e-mail.

We have just changed to a really vicious version of Websense and just about everything is blocked - it's now more a case of you are allowed to see xyz rather than a-v. irked
