Ok Im stupid and will admit I got a HTC touch 3g instead of an iPhone and now I have it all setup the way I want... pics copied, music, email hooked up, numbers transfered and working.... the fking thing is now going throught the battery in a little over 6 hours (should be 15days on non usage)... WTF!!

It has nothing else running on it (checked the memory and apps running) and now I rang orange all they can say is we will send a new handset, this will be the third one now as the others developed other faults.

What is the situation here? Can I refuse and get out of the contract as I dont want a new phone every bloody month and then have to spend the best part of a couple of days sorting out all the data on it or having to link it again to my old nokia just to transfer the numbers across.

So can I cancel everything under the breaking of a contract on the phone not working? Or am I just going to have to put up with it?

Turn off the Wifi and activate only when you need it. Same for the Bluetooth. This helped when I had the same problem.

Sounds like its just plainly not fit for purpose - I'm sure that is a way out if I ever heard it.

I have the Touch HD and recently the battery life fell dramatically on mine. It was around the time i installed the Blackberry software on it and started to get my work emails on it. I uninstalled the software and my battery went back to lasting a lot longer, but in the end sacrificed battery usage for emails. I now charge mine every evening during the week, however at weekend it seems to last a lot longer.

Email is the only reason I got this hunk of junk so I can track the emails I get from recuriters when Im not home, if that is whats killing the battery then Im going to get rid of the phone and cancel the contract.

Activesync is always off as my phone doesnt need to sync with my computer as the laptop is a mac and the phone uses windows.

I can tell when it goes into hyper mode as the little bugger heats up loads.

On my Xperia there's an option to turn the screen off and put the phone into a hibernate mode if there's nothing happening. It pings into life when I get a call/text/email, but stays dromant when I'm not using it.
I've had the battery last a few days like that before - is that an option on the HTC Touch HD?

How long have you set the turn off time for? Seconds, minutes or hours?

That is so odd...

It usually goes into that mode after a minute and then you need to press the power button to get to the pin code screen

Hmmmmmm. I hate to say it but the only thing I can think of is that your phone is fked.
That said - I'm not overly technically minded. I'll bet there's a really easy fix for it somewhere.
Sorry I couldn't have been more help!

Quick (but painful) test - Restore it to factory settings.

If the battery life goes back to how it was when you first had it then something running on your phone is causing the problem. If the problem stays the same then the phone itself is faulty.

Only downside is you will lose all your data/applications/settings by doing this.

I reckon its the data connect to Hotmail and if it is why its sucking so much power i dont know... have spotted the phone flicking it on and connecting to hotmail and getting hot... Im hoping its not doing it when everytime a new email comes in but if thats the case then I stuck with a paper weight as i need this function.

I've got the HTC Touch Pro and just about get 2 full days from it.

I've set the Hotmail sync to every 30 mins and also installed "Advanced Config" so that the phone drops data connections after 2 mins. I also discovered that if you let the battery run right down and then charge via USB (cable to the PC - NOT the "fast" charger it was supplied with) I can get 3 days out of it. I won't get another one as the GF's Ericsson gets about 7 days use before needing a charge
