Simple really - I'm leaving work, so I want to remove all my emails from my private POP3 account.

How do I export my OE inbox, email it to myself at home (I can do that bit ) and then merge it in to my outlook at home?

If you figure it out, let me know! I have NEVER managed exporting messages or data! There are .dbx files and .mbx files but they never seem to come out right in the new machine. Good luck!

in outlook you have the Import / Export menu option under File where you can import and export your emails and contacts (normally from a PST file).

not used express in a while but I would look in the same place for the same option.

So do you Export to a CD, then sort out your next PC and then Import from the CD?

First compact the folders.

Then do a search in File manager for the .dbx files the address book is .wab - Copy them all to CD.

Contacts. Save as a CSV file on CD.

Just remember when you are putting them onto the new machine make sure the folder isnt read only.

they need to be saved as comma delimited not as proprietary stuff from MS. then burn to CDrom or zip and email.

I never used the import export thing cause it never works for me. I just copy the contacts folder/address book.

and also copy the *.pst files to a CD and put them in the same folder on the home PC.

PS i have got a magazine somewhere that tells you how to completely backup your profile documents.email etc i will dig it out if you want

If I click on file, export, messages it only lets me send the messages to Outlook which is installed on the same machine (I've just spent 20 mins cleaning out the merged emails)

I use Outlook for work emails, OE for my POP3 account.

You can use a tool like DBXtract to do this. It'll save off each OE e-mail to an EML file, which can be opened/imported into Outlook nicely. You'll end up with a chuffing great set of folders full of the files, but you can zip these up & mail them /burn 'em to CD.

Oh, and the URL... http://chattanooga.net/~scochran/DBXtract.htm
