Lots of iPhone questions..
Discussion
Tomorrow is the big day for me when I get a 32GB iPhone 3G S. I really know nothing about this phone other than that fact that it's real pretty and has lots of apps/a good camera and well I just gotta get me one!
Can anyone tell me please:
1. Is there compression software that lets you get twice the data on the hard drive without loss of quality, I read that somewhere.
2. Can I just transfer my mp3's to the device or do they need converting?
3. Is the new battery really much better?
4. Is the video camera any good (for a phone video)?
5. Is wifi freely available in the UK in most highly populated areas/does the iPhone hook into this automatically?
6. Is there an app that links into Picasa and allows more than 100 photos to be shown at a time?
7. Will the iPhone play various video formats, .flv?
8. Is there a video convertor app that will convert videos whilst they are on the phone?
9. What is the fair usage limit for data per month?
Many Thanks!

No idea

They do not need converting. Just sync as you would normally with any iPod
3. Is the new battery really much better?
Battery life on the iPhone will never be as good as 'just' a phone, or 'just' an mp3 player, as it is doing a lot more. But a chap has one on the boat I work on, and it seems fine. You can buy cases that have an extra battery in there for extended life
4. Is the video camera any good (for a phone video)?
The new 3GS camera is pretty good, and the video camera has quite a few cool tricks
5. Is wifi freely available in the UK in most highly populated areas/does the iPhone hook into this automatically?
Yup... It will not connect automatically, BUT once you have connected somewhere, it will remember, and connect automatically next time
6. Is there an app that links into Picasa and allows more than 100 photos to be shown at a time?
Not that I know of. A flikr app would be cool!
7. Will the iPhone play various video formats, .flv?
Video formats supported: H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
8. Is there a video convertor app that will convert videos whilst they are on the phone?
Not sure why you would want this... Handbrake, or iSquint are the best convertors on Mac
9. What is the fair usage limit for data per month?
No idea
