Can anyone help me?

I'm trying to connect my PC with my xbox 360 so i can use the PC as a media centre type thingy.

Going trhough the process on the Xbox it gives you a code to enter on your pc after you have been to an xbox website

www.xbox.com/pcsetup

however when i get to that website i'm not given any option to enter the code.

I think this may be due to the fact i'm running XP and not Windows Media centre?

Any ideas?

Cheers

Dan

I think its called something like windows media centre connect or media centre extender you need to install on pc (its free), you should get told this by the xbox if you go to extender setup on there.

I did it & i'm a complete mong where pc's are concerned.

Yeah i think its the extender.

I've now got it where i can view files in my library from my xbox but i can't view file structures etc.

When i try to do that it says my pc isn't set up (which it obviously is)

I think the fault is bacuse I'm using xp rather than media centre.

Cheers for the info.

As an aside, I have the media centre edition and found that it was horribly slow to browse the library on the XBOX. Additionally it will only serve formats that the XBOX can play natively - I have some DivXs that contain unsupported codecs and had more luck with TVersity since this transcodes stuff on the fly. Maybe that might be something to look at?

Exactly that - it's a Media Centre Extender.. if you don't have Media Centre, it's not going to work.

Use ps3media server - it supports xbox360, ps3 and some dnla equipped tvs such as samsung and sony.

Uses java so it is multiplatform and it will transcode formats on the fly to whatever format the client requires.

(use the daily build for the tv support)

this is the answer to all your problems: http://www.tversity.com/

Fantastic bit of software which will allow you to share any folders you want with your xbox but will also convert them to a format your xbox can play on the fly.

Yup i've downloaded that as per the earlier posters advice and so far it seems to be working well.

only just seen this.

Can be done using XP, infact I do now over wireless

Used to have media player extender or something but this is now included in WMP 11. It does work well but can be a bit clunky.

TVersity works so much better although the library refresh can take some time. Very easy to set up, just need to make sure the XBOX can see the pc through your router.

I only use this for films don't know how good it is a music, but as the library can be a bit slow can imagine it could be a pain in a large music library. make sure the videos are XVID/avi files

OK - tversity seems to work well.

But it won't play VOB files?

Any idea on how to get it to be done, i've done some googling and getting lots of conflicting answers and complicated advice!

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers

New PC runnig Windows 7 with media player and its still a pain in the arse to get it working with the xbox.

Tversity on the other hand works brilliantly.

Why MS can't get two peices of there own softeare to work together I'll never know.

If you just want to view pics and stream music - piece o piss: on xp, share your files with media player. the 360 will spot them and you an browse the files structure easily - seriously takes 5 mins.
If you want to stream/play vids - you need more trix as detailed above.

To play VOB files on the 360 you will need to use Transcode 360 follow THIS GUIDE and they will work.

Also download MY Movies3 for all your dvd art work and descriptions.

If you're using a PS3, 'Java PS3 Media Server' is fantastic and spanks TVersity into next year for speed. Works with pretty much every format I've ever thrown at it. They could charge £50 for that software and I'd happily pay it.
