Yip! There's a hidden "Star Wars" movie on your operating system.

So if you fancy watching the complete movie of Starwars in ASCII in Command Prompt!!(Someone's got way too much time on their hands) hehe

To do this is easy:
1. Go to "Start",
2. Command Prompt
3. Type cd.. twice
4. Type telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl

Not so sure as to where to post this topic and I do hope it's not a repost as I checked the search module and came back with no results.

Enjoy!!

ETA(Gotta keep the punters happy)

I don't see why you specify XP.

That's not a hidden XP thing, it a telnet server, it should work on pretty much any operating system with a built in telnet client. It's also fairly old.

To put this in laymans terms when you type that command you are connecting to a place on the internet which is showing you the movie, much like going to a website, only using a much older language/technology. The "browser" (telnet.exe) you are using is actually there as a tool to let computer nerds like me fix things and configure/look at things that speak that language. It is usually used for really boring stuff but some wag put that starwars thing up smile

Easy mistake.

Next time you are visiting civilization and shiny balls in the sky emit light when you walk through a door, don't worry, it's all the same benevolent withcraft.

Well I wasn't so sure if it would work on other operating systems and since I used google to find the instructions, it only mentioned XP doing this.

Also, as you can probably gather that I aint computer literate. So you're just gonna have to bare with me on these types of subjects.

That makes absolutely no sense, unless you are confusing 'withcraft' with 'witchcraft'?

You cannot be that stupid and illiterate. You just can't and still be vaguely functional.

So, we must conclude it was done for some sort of comedic effect.

Oh dear.

Be careful in future though Stallion. If you are not computer literate DO NOT go typing things into your command prompt willy nilly. That line could have equally run a file to do something nasty to your computer or your personal data.

The chainletter you got was aimed at the non computer literate who blindly type things in. Windows 2k pro was the first to bundle telnet.exe in as default but you generally don't get home users using that. XP was the first home user version of windows to have it. Before that you have to use hyperterminal.
