Does anyone know how to record music onto a pc? I want decent quality, multi-track recordings from an electric guitar and from a microphone. Something along the lines of what an old four-track would do.

I have a decent pc running xp with a sound card. I tried connecting things up to the sound card but that didn't work so I'm obviously missing something. Do I just need the software eg Cubase?

You can connect you guitar to the line input and use the mic input on you sound card.

Then you a decent music recording program. Cool Edit Pro or similar. Thsi will allow you to set the sample rate for each peice.

Hope it helps

Leo,

Cubase or Logic Audio will do this for you. It will give you hard disk recording which will be similar to 4 track in that you record one track, play it back whilst recording another and so on. You can then mix-down all your tracks once you've finished recording.

Drop me a mail for more info.

Personally, I use pro-tools (since it's the industry standard). But most proper music packages will work for you.
