After a new PC, needs to be high spec as I use it for games. Torn between either a Mesh AMD 64 3200+ system or a multivision P4 3.2GHz system.

Which would you guys recomend ? Also, which is the fastest GPU at the mo, the ATI 9800XT or GeForce 5950 ?

You'd need Linux to make full use of the AMD 64. Microsoft expects to launch XP for AMD 64 technology only end 2004.

Even then, the applications you use should be adapted to 64 bit, which most likely are not games for Linux

Spend 50% of your budget by buying only the third best CPU and GPU, and spend the other 50% as soon as your hardware is outdated. That'll keep you happy for a longer time

Mesh AMD 64 3200+ is way far better and will out perform the other by miles!

Try the wonderful (ie. can we get a PH discount please Spie ) people at the Overclockers forums, which I say is an exceedingly good site..

Graphics? ATI
CPU? How mcuh do you want to spend? AMD 64 seems pintless until the 64 bit applications come out, and I imagine games will be even later. You'd be better off buying a decent monitor.

Build you own PC and you wil get one taloired to your needs.

I built a P4 2.8 for a mate for 900 with a semi decent graphics card and 1Gig Ram.. that was with out a monitor..

Have a look at building one with the components you feel that you feel will be best for your games and you will find it will out perform the manufactured machines
