Aside form the having the best coverage and consistently very helpful call centre operators who really know their stuff:

I dropped my N95 8GB and the screen broke. Not realising it was still under warranty from Voda as I have an 18mth contract, I took it to that Purple Life bunch of crooks who liberated me of 50 quid and took a week to replace the display but not the screen cover.

3 weeks after it came back, the whole thing shut down. No idea why. Called Purple Life, they sucked through their teeth a bit and went "oohh...looks like the motherboard, itll cost you 50 quid for us to diagnose it". Gave him some tips of where best to insert that idea and called Voda where the lady said it was still under warranty and she would send me an addressed and paid for mail bag to put my phone is and it would back with me in 4 days if they could fix it.

So from that moment, I started getting texts with updates of exactly where my mailbag was and what happens next. Sure enough, 4 days later and with a text to warn me of its arrival, it arrives back in bubble wrap in a mail bag with a letter detailing the repairs. Keypad replaced, display replaced (the one installed by the robbing bastids), screen cover replaced, new software installed and if you need anything else, give us a call.

Im constantly delighted with Vodafone as one of the few places I can go now with a problem and actually be sure Im going to get a result. Yes, I pay more for less minutes and texts than people I know on T-Mobile or the like. But its worth it for instances like this alone.

No. Im FA to do with Voda, just giving credit where its due.

I have always found Vodafone an excellent company to do business with.

(no I don't work for them either.)

You only have to look at the shop and the guy in it to realise that would be futile and that I shouldnt have gone in there in the first place(!)

O2 are amazing.

£27.something for a sim with unlimited blackberry usage, 1200 txts 600 mins and unlimited broadband at home upto 8meg.

I can pay an extra £25 and have unlmiited bb worldwide.

I completely agree. Vodafone are without doubt the best. Not the cheapest, but for sure the best.

I've had innumerable work phones / Blackberry devices on other networks, however I find Vodafone offers consistently the best coverage. I've been a personal customer for 15 years.

I left them when they tried to charge me more to upgrade my phone than it would have cost to cancel my contract and buy it as a new customer.

So I got an Iphone and never looked back.

Thats how I roll

I really rate vodafone as well; been with them for several years and I initially chose them because the gave the best coverage in a very secluded part of Scotland. Only my recent upgrade fiasco has slightly marred my perception of them, but I'm still relatively happy with them. A few of my friends have some horror stories though... luck of the draw I guess.

I think it's end of this year/start of next but will 'only' be the 3G not the 3GS.

Before Christmas my be considered good timing by Apple but it depends on their contracts and so on I imagine.

On the flip side, as a 12 year contract customer with Vodafone, I cancelled 2 days ago in disgust at the "service" this year.

Last year I cancelled 4 of my 5 contracts. So they cancelled my 5th number, my original 12 year old contract as well.

One day, I turn my phone on and its become pay as you go?? Couple of calls to a call centre - made on another phone as the paygo phone didn't have any credit and they charge you to talk to them on paygo(!!), and a woman saw the problem and suggested I called the paygo department to get the code so the business department can drag it back.

I suggested that she did the leg work. She agreed that was a better idea.

The billing, whilst I was away, then added that cancellation charge to my bill. A full 11 months was added for canceling early. As I was away, I under paid the account, and the phone was disconnected by the time I got back in the UK.

They reversed the billing, but not before the system put another 9-10 months of cancellation onto the account for not paying the bill.

I got that sorted out in short order, and lo and behold they cancel it again.

After a lengthy discussion, someone sat down with my bill, and sorted it all out again. I think they chopped it off once more for good measure in January again.

Then we get to coverage.

For some unknown reason I can no longer get coverage in my house??? WTF? I've had coverage all these years, and the only way to get coverage is to turn 3G on, which eats the battery, and quite why i need 3G i don't know. But even then, i get absolutely rubbish coverage.

I don't live in the sticks - I live on the edge of London in Surrey ffs.

Moving on to coverage, I put on an event in the UK 3 weeks ago. The only sad fkers on Vodafone (me and some other chap) were the only ones getting no coverage repeatedly. Even a campsite owner knew what network I was on when I asked about coverage "Oh no Vodafone have a black spot here - we've never had Vodafone coverage".

Move along a bit and every stopover point Vodafone had issues. Including John O'Groats. Again.

And finally, 12 months ago I wanted an upgrade. The phone was free to new customers so didn't think it would be a problem.

It was. For 30 minutes I did what can only be described as a spoof call, like the bank advert "new customers only". Being a customer for 11 years meant absolutely f-all to Vodafone.

It took 45 minutes to be passed onto the person who simply said "not a problem - you'll have that model of phone tomorrow morning". Now thats service - but 45 minutes too late.

I do not want to battle to get the best deals. I simply cannot be arsed anymore to do battle with companies to be treated properly.

I'm totally dropping Vodafone. At the moment Tesco Pay as you Go looks pretty decent value. Who cares about coverage.

Buy a sim only contract and fund the phones yourself.

Probably going to a Tesco pay as you go sim to be honest. Not interested in the brands anymore, or the coverage, and Tesco (which I think is O2) seem to be pretty reasonable.

Well I guess there will be horror stories too with a company of that size. And I havent been with them for half as long as you.

I know there is a section of the M25 around the A20/A2 where my Voda coverage is decidedly ordinary. Having said that, if I put the Crackberry alongside the N95, the Crackberry doesnt find or hold a signal nearly as well as the Nokia. Unfortunately, the BB is my work phone so I suffer occasionally. On balance though, Voda has far less blackspots for my use than others. Of note is in the New Forest, over at the Purbecks and in places in Cornwall and at quite a few racetracks around the country, where I seem to win out over friends with other carriers.

Where upgrades are concerned, Ive always been able to get whatever phone I wanted as long as it was due. Most occasions, they will ring me and say, "You can upgrade early if you like, what phone do you want?" and bang, I get it next day.

Apparently its because Im a premium customer (I bet they tell everyone that).
