Websites for kids to do school reasearch
Discussion
Well my oldest is now 11 and has moved up to the local secondary school. 1 week in and his homework is all about researching things on the internet. This week - biology.
Can anyone help me out with some links to child friendly learning resources ? Wikipedia is great for older kids but for an 11 year old its hard to pick out the facts. I've searched all over and cant seem to find any sources of information that explain things in a way he would be able to easily grasp.
Cheers

Lots of interactive stuff. I use it in class all the time to help them visualise things. Does lots of subjects too and does KS3 and KS4 stuff. Needs a subscription for constant use but worth a look. You might even be able to "borrow" your schools log-in if you ask nicely and they use the site

Oh I like that site, I may well just subscribe anyway thanks for the link Lots of interactive stuff. I use it in class all the time to help them visualise things. . Problem with internet research is that a lot of resources also have banner/side ads showing naked women. I do feel its a bit off for the school to just send them home to do internet research without providing any guidelines or info on sites that might help provide the answers. His computer has pretty strict blocking on it so he gets frustrated very quickly when he cant access any of the sites that google throws up in a search so I have to turn the blocking off and then supervise.
Hopefully as we go through this we'll find some good resources that he can just jump straight to and wont have to rely so much on searching.
