I want to use the thumbnail for a pic on my computer as an Avatar on a website. I'm using XP, any idea where I can find the thumbnails that are generated when I view a folder in thumbnail mode?

I've tried resizing the pic with photo editor, but the quality is crap!

You can sometimes see a files called 'thumbnails' in the relevant folder, but I'm not sure you can do much with it.
To make thumbnails I use PhotoShop - I usually make them 100 pixels wide x pro depth, then save at medium res so they download quickly. That usually gives a filesize of 6-8Kb. Check out www.sanjuannepomuceno.co.uk and you'll see dozens of the critters!
Yes, image quality will degrade massively but there's a limit as to what you can get in a tiny box!

www.irfranview.com is another image viewer and limited manipulator (what it does, it does very well but it isn't Photoshop). It's free as well.

One of the neatest features in Front Page (which lots of people frown upon) is the thumbnail generator. Start a new page, insert a picture. Click within the picture to select, and then click the auto thumbnail icon on the toolbar. Turns the image into a thumbnail and creates a new thumbnail file.

You're right! Must have a play with that next time. I can use FrontPage. Looked at GoLive but got scared!
