So I bought a phone from eBay for my mum...

Locked to Orange, great. £20 to unlock from Orange. Has to have been on their network for 3 months or more. Bought the £20 voucher, called last month to unlock it. Safe. Called today. First woman wouldn’t speak to me because I hadn’t registered the SIM, and I was 'fraud'. Second woman asked if my name was Kevin Walker, to which I said yes. Request for phone unlock code not sent last month because of system errors. Wont unlock it for another 2 months as even though it’s been a contract phone for 2 years, it needs to be on this sim for 3 months still. Their call centre is in India so they don’t really understand what you’re on about. ‘I’m really sorry sir, I know it must be frustrating that nothing has happened for two months, but if you just wait another 25 days, then call us, then wait 15 days we can unlock it for you’. Told her to make love to herself and hung up.

If you're with Orange by choice, I really feel for you. Needless to say, phone is back on eBay.

What phone is it? You might be able to unlock it without their help.

Shirley the OP can walk into any one of the dodgy phone shops and get it unlocked.

Or download the software of torrent sites, hook the phone up and do it yourself?

(disclaimer... since to have the software is illegal, surely telling the user to get it from file sharing sites is not... please dont bk me )

Agreed why go through Orange? Go to one of those shops that permeate every high street, they'll do it there and then for about £10

Some phones are only able to be unblocked via orange unfortunately.

Orange customer services are only in India if you call outside of working hours - try calling in daytime hours, I always do that otherwise end up pulling my hair out.

There was a site i used to unlock a phone a few years ago, for a 5 pound fee. They texted me a code to unlock the phone.

My phone had broken and had gone back to be repaired and I needed a stop gap so i bought a £20 phone form tesco and paid £5 for the unlock. I was a bit dubious about the website and did think it might not work or be a scam site so was pleasantly suprised when both the code arrived and it worked.

My advice would be too google the model of phone and the word unlock.

It's a Nokia 6300, it's a BB5 with a USB port only. Local phone cracker bloke said it has to go through Orange as there's not currently anything readily available to crack the numerical lock. From what i've read, the cheapest option was to get a new sim with £20 on it then get Orange to do it.

Obviously it's just easier to sell it to someone willing to stick on an Orange Pay As You Go tariff though.
