Any1 used their sky wireless router with different provider

Sorry for the textspeak title, ran out of space.

I have a sky wireless router and a linksy one.

The linksy one needs a separate router to plug into that ( which I don;t have at the moment ).

Thought I would use the sky one I have kicking about as that doesn't need another router as it has a asdl standard telephone line in.

I set it up but the disk setup/ connection only seem to let you connect to a sky connection.

Is there any way to get it to work on my broadband provider with their log on details ?

At the moemtn I am using a speedtouch modem straight into the computer.

Google "sky broadband netgear router firmware".

Basically although it is a Netgear router, Sky have crippled it so that the username / password is locked in. However you can re-flash it with standard Netgear firmware.

Thankyou for that, but what does that mean ?

Do i hook it up and install it as if I was a sky customer then run the extra firmware and then it will let me put in different details ?

The procedure for the Sagem router is here:

However if you are at all unsure then I would suggest you don't do it!

Why is that ?

If it just muffs up the router then fine, it was only on the off chance that it worked.

If it will muff the pooter then I will leave it.

Basically, you download the "normal" operating system for the router and install it. This should let you enter any username / password you want. Up to step 6 of the procedure above should do it. You can't kill the PC, but you might kill the router!

thats great buddy thankyou, so it basic changes the setup from using the sky instillation disk to like running a free bit of kit as if I bought it from a shop ?

I have follwoed the links and typed in what it asks me but it seem to give me the sign in info so I can coonect my own router on the sky service.

I have sign in info for my new provider I just can't get the sky router to accept it.

My head hurts !

1. Change your PC's IP address to 192.168.1.2 and navigate to http://192.168.1.1/. You should see a rather sparse web page that has fields for Software File Name and MAC Base Address. Enter your router's MAC address in the appropriate box, then click on Save/Apply followed by Save/Reboot.

1. Once the router has rebooted, navigate to http://192.168.1.1/ with the username admin and password admin - note the changed password. You should see the standard Sagem F@ST2404 user interface.

Ignore the "modified version of the 1.1Sky firmware" download, you don't need it.

Have you downloaded and installed the standard firmware? Does it show up with standard Sagem branding when you go to the router admin pages now?

Don't see how. YHou can sometimes try resetting it with the 30/30/30 trick
