Numpty Q: Contract to PAYG advice

Can't find anything in 'search' so apologies if I've missed it and the inadequacy of this question.

Currently with Three on a £15 p.m. contract and don’t even use that. PAYG is the way forward. How do I keep my existing number when swapping network (want out of Three) to a PAYG contract?

Also, anyone recommend a really good phone around £75?

You need to call your current provider and request a PAC code to transfer your mobile number to a new network. Once your new phone, SIM card and contract arrives, you need to call your new provider and ask for your number to be transferred ... This is when they will need the PAC code

Or you can just call three and ask them to move you to PAYG to save messing about with PAC codes. Are you out of contract? if not they will charge you for the remainder of your line rental.

There are a number of companies doing £10 a month contracts now. Means you never get caught out with 'no credit'. Loads of free minutes and more texts than anyone over 25 will use in a year, let alone amonth. How much are you going to put on per month with PayG? Gotta be at least a tenner....

And you can still get a pretty decent camera phone thrown in free of charge.... worth £100 on eBay.

I have the O2 £10 a month 'SIM only' and sourced my own Nokia. If you want to cancel you have to give 30 days notice; legally it's a 30-day contract which automatically renews every month.

I don't know how many minutes/texts I have. The beauty of O2 (I'm not sure if anyone else does this) is multimedia messages are included and use up four of your text allowance.

The only time I pay more than £10 is if I've had to call some robbing company on a premium number. I think voicemail is included in the bundled minutes too.

I just don't like the idea of 18/24(!) month contracts.
