Identifying a mobile phone network from the number

You used to be able to do it as providers had banks of numbers, so 07877, 07879, 07779 was Vodafone etc. Does that still hold broadly true (except for switchers) and how can I find out which one is which?

I need to contact just vodafone users from a longer list of client mobile numbers.

Can I ask why only vodafone.

teh reason I ask is that our cdr actually states the original owner of the mobile number, so regardless of where is has Puk'd of to we are billed at the original companies rates.

(Good for Orange to O2, not to good 02 to T mobile!)


And it's not advisable to ask clients where they are Pukking of to.

You will run into problems if you just contact every number within a range. I presume this is some sort of marketing exercise.

Mobile numbers can be registered with the Telephone Preference Service to receive no marketing calls, just the same as land lines. Block calling will have you calling TPS registered numbers too.

Ours are registered and when we occasionally get a marketing call, we always make a point of complaining. Since it costs me for roaming and I’m frequently abroad, I don’t want to pay to have sales calls forwarded to me whilst I’m overseas.

If I want your product I’ll call you, if you call me I will deliberately choose an alternative supplier.

One guy I know kept receiving sales calls from the same company. Despite informing them he was TPS registered, abroad for the majority of the time and demanding they take him off their calling lists, they persisted in calling him frequently.

It ended up with him getting so fed up that he sued them for the roaming charges as a matter of principal.

I've had my number for 15+ years, was originally a 0403 Cellnet number, tranformed to an 07803, and since it's been on Orange, Vodaphone, back to O2, back to Orange, and finally back to O2 again.

I am running some trials of new HR metrics via a staffing agency who are getting me 100 people and I have bolted on a trial of a new branding metric using Vodafione as the demo. It works best if the respondents are Vodafone customers, so I need 50 of the 100 to be Vodafone users. I am tryig to avoid them calling people to offer work and having to disappointment them when they are not Vodafone users (or pretending they ae just to get the work).
