beat the user senseless everytime they attempt to access it.. They'll learn after a while, it'll become pavlovian (sp??)..

Add an entry for www.facebook.com pointing to 127.0.0.1

Most of your job done, or just tell the missus/kids to stop it.

Yes as it is done here, only FB and YouTube are blocked rest are fine

I would suggest asking in the computing forum, I believe its a setting on your firewall/proxy server

Yes.

Navigate to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC

and open the HOSTS file in Notepad.

Add the line

127.0.0.1 www.facebook.com

at the bottom. That will feck it royally.

If the PC is running a local web server you'll see it's default message. If it isn't it will eventually come back with an error message saying the site can't be found. If you use 0.0.0.0 it will definitely just come back with an error.

127.0.0.1 is known as the loopback address.

Effectively it translates to being your own IP address - so Facebook will think your computer is the server, hence it won't work.
