So the bit of background to make the story make sense.

I've lived in the same house for 25 years (parents). However post divorce an agreement was reached between the three of us which has allowed them to move on and get on with their lives and me to stay here. Basically I took on the house and it's responsibilities.

Simple job you would think to swap the bills over......

Start with the telecomms supplier, shouldn't take too much guessing to work out who, lets put it this way it's a patriotic short name.

Go online, find a deal that suits, up pops a live chat window with an operator, we chat, we agree a deal inc. 3 months free Broadband and an ipod. Place order. Job done.

Get phone call. "Mr Wild just sorting your recent order, blah blah"

"Me ; ok and to clarify the 3 months free and ipod are included aren't they?"
"Her ; yes the 3 months free are"
"Me ; and the ipod?"
"Her ; Oh thats only for people who have paid a £25 depost" ???WTF??
"Me ; well thats not the deal that was agreed"
"Her ; I'm afraid we can't find any record of that conversation so it isn't included"
"Me ; Actually I have a screen grab of the conversation"
"Her ; Deathly silence.................I just need to speak to my supervisor..........Mr Wild I'm pleased to tell you on this occasion we will include a free Ipod with your order!"
"Me ; Oh thankyou"

So fast forward and hear nothing, was promised an email, but not a sausage. After a couple of days I ring up and find that due to "errors" the order for BB was cancelled but the telephone line is going ahead. I state I want the BB order reinstating as it was and apparently this can't be done.

After much arguing and even the girl at B* agreeing how simple my request was and how seemingly useless the company was I was promised a call back.

Guess what.....

So I call back yesterday. NO RECORD OF MY LINE/ACCOUNT/ORDER etc. It's been active 25 years and I'm calling from it now, what more do you want???

Fast forward to last night and an email pops up stating the package was all ordered and BB would go live on the 20th.

Seriously worst company I have ever ever dealt with.

I bet if you stopped paying your bill they'd soon realise your line was active biggrin

I've just moved into a new house and got a phone line with the same company, they gave me a number and it all went perfectly, no problems at all.
Until someone phoned up for a taxi. banghead They'd only gone and given me the number of a taxi firm that had presumably just gone bust as the number was still in Yellow Pages. Cue 20 mins of battling through the automated phone system trying to find someone to talk to, eventually the fault reporting thing seemed the best bet and now I've got a new number.
It really shouldn't be this difficult!

I had one of their sales reps outright lie to me in order to get me to sign up. Promised me a black Home Hub, Switch-over of service within one day (minimal downtime of about an hour or two) and a set monthly phone/BB cost.

A white home hub shows up, not happy, but its only aesthetic so I let it slide. Come switchover day, no phone, no broadband all day, then the next day and still nothing the day after. After the 4th day I call up to ask what was wrong and the rep informs me that because I am switching from an outside phone provider the switchover will take two weeks!!.

I hit the roof demand to speak to supervisor etc, but nothing can be done, very sorry etc, sales rep would have known it would be two weeks and should not have informed you it would be one day. While I am ranting I mention the home hub in the wrong colour when I was promised black. Again, sorry, but the black home hubs were only for a limited time and they have been out of stock for months before my order was placed, don't know why the sales rep said you could have one. I suggest that I know why and it was that I was being told whatever I wanted to hear to get me to sign up. More apologies, but no solutions.

At this point after two blatant lies have been uncovered, I am hesitant to ask if the monthly costs are as I was quoted, but I figure might as well get all the bad news out of the way and sure enough the hatrick. The costs were only £3 per month more than I was told, but a lie is a lie and I have been done over good and proper. I get lots of promises that they have a record of the conversation I had with the sales rep and disciplinary action will be taken etc, but I already know what to expect of their promises.

About a month before the contract was to end I get a cheery call from a rep offering me a special deal if I sign up for another year. I absolutely let loose on the poor girl and I have never heard from them again regarding singing up for another year.

The thing is I could kind of understand the difficulty if I was moving in to a new property, or there wasn't a line in place, or even if it was a swap over from one BB supplier to another.

But for gods sake all they have to do is change the first name on the bill and set up BB. It should take about 30 seconds to do.

To be incompetent in this day and age is intolerable but to bare faced lie to me as well is inexcusable.

So why do you all stick with BT? Nobody forces you to use them.

The competition aren't that much better. When I moved house Virgin sent an engineer round to my new place to set up my TV, phone and broadband. He turned up on time, set everything up quickly, and I couldn't fault them on the service. However a couple of months later when I rang them to ask why they were still sending my bills to my old house they told me I should have informed them I'd moved house. laugh

Because 90% of the time changing supplier still has BT in the loop somewhere.

In all fairness that wasn't their fault. You asked for a number, they allocated you a spare one. Nothing to do with them whose it was and if it was still in the Yellow Pages.

The OP hasn't moved house; he's only making an administrative change. We switched from BT to TalkTalk with the same phone line and phone number and it couldn't have been easier.

Our monthly bill is now £17 with line rental, all landline calls and virtually all international calls included. BT keep ringing to try and tempt me back but I tell them how much I'm paying and they go very quiet. Very satisfying.

Right well credit where it is due, my Hub arrived yesterday and took about 30 seconds to set up, insanely easy and it all just works.

Plus it seems quicker than the business BB I had before.

So currently happy.

Of course it could all go horribly wrong when it comes to setting up the direct debits........Which bizarrely BT set up after you are receiving the service?
