Hi chaps,

Just taken delivery of the new PC and wondering about replacing the old cannon inkjet printer.

It needs to be able to handle the normal document printing, but also be capable of handling some reasonably high volume graphics stuff (SWMBO puts a calendar together for the family each year for example).

Not a huge volume printer, but one that will tackle a larger job if required (and not clocg up and die if it isnt used every 3 minutes preferably).

TIA

Colour laser not so hot for photo printing, so the calendar would need another solution.

Most online printers do calendars though, as do Jessops, Boots etc

Watch the price of Laser Toner refills too. ALWAYS check the price of the refills before buying, and the capacity of the ones included with the printer. They are often low capacity ones to get you started.

I have a Xerox Phaser which costs £105 plus VAT

The toner carts included are Black 1500 pages and each of CMY are 700 pages.

Replacement set - Black 2000 pages, each of CMY 1000 pages £159 plus VAT!

A Dell 1320CN costs £145 plus VAT and ships with a 1000 page Toner Cartridge set.

A replacement 1000 page Toner Cartridge set costs ......................... £185 plus VAT

Go figure!

Helpful stuff re lazer printers!
Jee wizz... I knew the toners were expensive and have always figured that these new printers came with a 'half filled' cartridge, to lure you into buying.

Okay - the calendar thing is a yearly ritual that she goes through and is just lots of pics put together of the kids etc - the family now expect it...
But anyway, she won't put the job out to a print shop!

Maybe we bite the bullet and put yet another set of cartridges in the little inkjet we have and see how it goes for this year - then get something up to the job once xmas is out the way.

Is there such a printer on the market that can handle decent volume, without costing an arm and a leg to buy and keep the ink filled up!?

Cheers for your help anyway thumbup

I like it here for printers:
http://www.printware.co.uk/Products/Dept/Printers/...

They give a per page cost at variable coverage. Obviously that's factory refills not compatibles but handy nevertheless.

How old is your existing Canon?

How much is a set of cartridges for it?

Personally, I am a fan of Epson inkjets. Yes, they can clog if left for months without printing, but they are easy to get going if they do clog up and compatible ink carts are silly cheap.

If you print "something" every week or so then the modern Epsons don't have many clogging issues.

Get youself a brother colour printer and you should be fine. Very hard wearing machines. Hp lasers are good but veeeeeery expensive on ink as are all hp printers tbh.

Xerox printers arent too bad either.

I used to absolutely swear by Epson inkjet printers, but the last two I've had (in the last eighteen months) have been shockingly unreliable. I now have a mono Canon Laser for document work and a colour Canon inkjet, and both have performed without fault. The laser has, thus far, managed over 1,000 pages of text on the original toner...not bad for a £60 printer!

A couple of HP models are catching my eye at the moment though!

Only ever had one Epson with a problem, and I've had a good few.

It was within the 1 year warranty and was replaced with a refurbed one with no questions at the local Epson Service Centre.
