xbox dvd

this might be a stupid question but recently got an xbox and when i play films on it from blockbusters they only show in letterbox format - i have a non widescreen tv and normal is selected in the options on the xbox for video. There doesnt seem to be any way of changing it within the films themselves but the only other dvd i have of my own plays normally?? any ideas is soddin annoying?

The DVD you are watching is probably in Widescreen format and hence you have got a letter box view (black border top and bottom)

I have a widescree TV and i still get blakc borders top and bottom on some films...
