Was thinking of creating an advert on Facebook, had a read of the t&c's but got a bit concerned with the 'pay per click', would I be correct in thinking that everytime someone clicks on my advert I get charged for it? I know you can set the daily limit and how much per click I am charged but get the impression it would be a little open to be exploited by some kind of auto clicker used by Facebook itself to generate extra funds, anyone on here created an advert on there?

I've tried it and I thought the cost per click was quite high in comparison to Google Adwords for example. Yes, you get charged per click-through and you can set a daily budget. However if you don't select a cost per click close to F/B's recommendation then you won't get any clicks.

You can set a daily budget and I doubt that F/B would be charging you fraudulently.

It's good in that you can set the target demographic quite accurately.

I've tried this and it just didn't work, the adverts are virtually untargeted so it's very difficult to get a profitable conversion rate.

Maybe it's changed since you tried it. You can target by

Sex
Precise age range
Country
City and radius
People's birthdays
Education level
Workplaces
Single, married, engaged, in a relationship
Language spoken
Interests

untargeted in the sense that all of those categories are incredibly broad, obviously targeted ads on google are targeted at people searching for your product, or indeed searching for anything you choose, so will give a much higher conversion rate. If you're selling, for example, t-shirts, there is nothing you can do to target at people who may already be looking for your product, so getting conversions is very, very difficult.

Yep, fair enough - though Facebook isn't a search engine of course wink

That is a bit obvious, really! If, however, you sell climbing equipment, you could very easily target a relevant audience.

I'm aware it's obvious, but at least when advertising on Linkedin you're automatically targeting business people, pistonheads you're targetting car-people etc. I don't see the value in Facebook advertising for most industries really, hence why the only adverts I see are for gay t-shirts and singles dating

Well, then it really depends on your business. I can see that for many industries, it could work, whilst many others, it wouldn't. I get a fair few stockmarket-related ads because I put that as one of my interests...

Thanks for the replies, just had an idea to advertise my Florida Villa on there, the amount of people using facebook these days I thought it might pay for itself.

I wonder how many people take any notice of ads on FB? I hardly ever notice them to be honest...but then I ignore adverts as a rule anyway; don't think I've ever clicked on one.

same here. But then again, having never really though about it in the past, I've just realised that the advertiser gets charged for every click, so prehaps I should just start repeatedly clicking on the annoying bloody things so they get charged.
