I'm using ntbackup on a Windows 2000 server.

I have a tape that was created by ntbackup on this server which is labelled D8 according to the Removable Storage section of Computer Management. I want to restore a file from this tape, but it doesn't appear in the list of tapes when I run ntbackup, so I can't select it to restore from?

Is there any way of doing an inventory or catalogue as you can in BackupExec?

(I've done an Inventory in Removable Storage already, hence I know the label.)

Any ideas?

When you stick the tape in and open NTBackup goto the restore tab, right click the media containing the backup set you want to catalog and click 'catalog'.

edited to add: ah sorry just read your post properly, the above info isnt much good if it doesnt appear in the list.

I managed to do a catalogue on another server, which let me "import media" in NT backup.
